Week7: Every Time.

This week I worked on the fifth track for my EP titled, Every time. I was having a midnight scroll one night last week on Youtube for my usual beat hunting and I came across the classic,J Dilla. I listened to the beat on repeat for a good two days, and I came up with this concept. Being wavey every time and showing love to all upcoming and local artists.



Many fellow Auckland emcees have inspired my own sound. Melodownz, Poetik, Rizvan,Raiza Biza, who I have alrehomevrew, ady made mention of, whilst also adding inspirations Avondales, Team Dynamite and Young, gifted and broke. Big props to fellow homies and rappers Church & AP and my main toko, Yung Gxldie from Otara, who’s known me since 2014 in the Gray Ave. Big ups also to my old stomping grounds of De La Salle College, who played an essential role in helping shape my career. 

So far in terms of progress for the debut of my EP, it has been shaping nicely. Outside the project, I’ve been nominated as a finalist for the Volume South competition to celebrate OMACs (Otara Music Arts Centre) 30th Birthday to hopefully win a $500 award and also a photo in the music museum for South Auckland artists at MIT, Otara.


I’m also performing at a few upcoming gigs this month also helping to push and promote my stuff to the local scene. To say things are coming along nicely for me with me with my music, is an understatement. The EP is 90 per cent complete and I’m feeling I am getting the recognition I deserve from artists and fans. Like we say at Rep FM, we do this all day and the goal remains clear in my mind. I’m on track and its only getting better.

I saw a Facebook post the other day, the author shared a screen shot of a musician boasting about their worldly possessions. He commented that people shouldn't make a public post on social media every time they make money, just get on with the rewards of their hard work, and be quiet with it.  He must see a lot of it or something, because that post triggered him to write in caps lock. I understood what he meant. I know of a couple people who post about making "money moves", but they honestly do it for the gram. You know the ones, depending off of government benefits? Week 4: Open Mic Night

WEEK 4: Open Mic Night 🎤   This was the week I was both excited and scared about. Performing is something that I have done all throughout primary school, college and also for gigs. However at this point, it had been a few months since the last time I performed and I was nervous about not being able to impress people at the Otara music arts centres open mic nights, hosted by one of my rap idols, King Kapisi.  The hall was dimly lit. I signed my life away on the performers list. Then, As I began rapping, I was soaking in all the nerves and gave what I thought was my heart, on the microphone. Mid reflection post

So far for my brief two portfolio assessment, I have been posting weekly blogs about certain aspects and inspirations that is helping shape my music project, A Son of Polynesia EP. I currently have posted five blogs on Blogger.com, with week one speaking about not expecting hand outs on brand promotion or support from fellow artists. Week two, on Taika Waititi's comments on racism in New-Zealand and other kiwi rappers whom inspired me to write and release my intro track, A Son of Polynesia.
