Mid reflection post

So far for my brief two portfolio assessment, I have been posting weekly blogs about certain aspects and inspirations that is helping shape my music project, A Son of Polynesia EP. I currently have posted five blogs on Blogger.com, with week one speaking about not expecting hand outs on brand promotion or support from fellow artists. Week two, on Taika Waititi's comments on racism in New-Zealand and other kiwi rappers whom inspired me to write and release my intro track, A Son of Polynesia. Week three, touched on the egotistic persona some people put on social media, when they have money and how that pushed me to speak on the effects its had on my family, friends, and the pacific community, composing the second track on my EP, Confessions of a broke rapper. My nervous experience at an open mic night in my week four posting and finally week five, what inspired me to write track number three of the EP, Live life.

I have been discussing with my mentors and fellow students in my music class, family and social gatherings, gaining different ideas and opinions on how I can go about producing my EP. I have also been reading and attempting to keep up with social, historical and political content in order to further my knowledge of surrounding and global communities to better my raps. I do this in hopes that I may write something great and relatable for listeners, but also to share my story from a young, pacific male from South Auckland. From my planning of posts in my proposal, I have gone down a completely different path that I set out. However, I have three recorded, mixed and mastered tracks ready for release, which means I am on track for release of the EP and the coming posts.
Some critiques I personally give to the postings is that I should manage my time better. I feel now, reading back on my posts, that I the posts were quickly written, and I could've put further effort to explain and speak on more issues, whilst having a more coherent flow to what I am blogging about. I also have had assessments piling up, but have been lacking in focus, as I have put too much energy into working on my music and getting noticed in the NZ Hip Hop scene, instead of making my schoolwork a priority. I feel also that I should make reference to hip hop theorists for reliability to back up any claims I make. For the upcoming posts, I will make enough time and have the strength to get them done as soon as possible. Below are my planned blogs for the remainder of the .

Blog 6: This week I will find a topic, will show the writing process, find an instrumental,  and speak to music mentor, Soko Lapez for ideas on track number four for the EP, and get to the recording.
Blog 7: This week I will be talking about writers block and the experience of such an annoying point in any artists career.
Blog 8: In my final blog, I should have the final product ready to release on sound cloud and hard copies.

I hope by the end of my blogs, I will have the product ready to share with family, friends and the teacher. Not only is this an assessment for school, it is also my art that I would like to share with the world, also appreciating feedback in what I have done well and what I can improve.
