Final reflection post
I have finally completed my Brief 2 portfolio project for ireflect. It was an awesome journey sharing my experiences weekly on the topic of my musical creation, A Son of Polynesia EP, on Blogger. I am really happy so far with the product and even though it is 90% complete, blogging has really helped me set up tasks in order to get things done, and has played the role of reminding me that I have things to work on. Its really kept me on my toes. However I do feel I could've managed my time better.
The assessments have been piling up, and again I have been lacking in focus, as I have put too much energy into working on my music and getting noticed in the NZ Hip Hop scene, instead of making schoolwork a priority. I had ample amount of time and strength to get them done as soon as possible, but now its rushed work and I am worried could affect my overall grade for this paper.
I have continued to discuss with my mentors and fellow students in my music class, family and social gatherings, gaining different ideas and opinions on how I can go about producing my EP. Reading and keeping up with social, historical and political content, has really helped shape how Ive rapped and written in my songs recently. I feel so in tune with the world, its gifted me with inspiration to make awesome songs, and people have been listening to it, commenting its relevance to the youth of South Auckland and being Polynesian in New-Zealand. My knowledge and music will only continue to grow.
In my proposal, I brought forward questions for self-reflection:
• Am I rapping the way I intended to?
• Is everything going to schedule? If not, why?
• If something went wrong, how did I overcome that obstacle?
• Have I made any changes that affect the overall vision of the EP?
Did I Rap the way I intended to?
I did'nt intend for my lyrics and skills to enhance over the course of eight weeks, but it definitely has and Im very proud of how far Ive progressed in such a short time. The content is there and it has me excited on future projects to really continue down the themes of Polynesian culture and empowerment.
Is everything going to schedule? If not, why?
Again, Time management was poor for me with this project. Family, school and music were things I had to balance and I put way too much time in working on the music then actually focusing on schoolwork, which has forced me to write rushed pieces of posts and not showing the full capabilities of my writing abilities. I felt I could've used more theories to back up my claims and also made small videoclips for songs to interact with bloggers.
If something went wrong, how did I overcome that obstacle?
The way I overcame obstacles was by completing weekly posts. As I said in the previous question I rushed my work and just whipped up whatever my mind could conjure. I also spoke with fellow students in class to see where they were with their work so I could gain inspiration from them to move forward and get my work done.
Have I made any changes that affect the overall vision of the EP?
I have only changed what I have spoken about in content posts. However, the sound and vision has come to life in the five tracks I have completed. I am very happy with it and I cant wait to release it on soundcloud for listeners.
Blogging has definitely made me consider using such a platform, to showcase the journey of my music. Will surely use it for my music project.
